Good furniture makes a home look nice, but it’s not always about looks. For me, furniture is about comfort more than style. My home is not a museum, it is a place for my little family to gather together. It looks and feels lived in, much like many of your homes. We get a lot of love out of our furniture, especially our couch. My couch is so comfy but often spills, and other messes get soaked into the material leaving behind a funky smell. If you experience this, follow along for ways to naturally eliminate odor from couches.
Air It Out
The most simple method is also free. You can naturally eliminate odor from your couches by airing it out. Much like we need sunshine and fresh air, so does your couch. The process is fairly simple. You must set your couch outside in the sun for several hours a day. A day when it is sunny and windy would be best. Be sure not to leave it outside overnight or in the rain, as it will increase the chance of mildew and lock-in odors.
Baking Soda Remedy
Most of us have baking soda handy. Its commonly used in homes to deodorize the refrigerator, or it can be used for oral care. It is a cheap and inexpensive substance that works wonders on odor. To start the treatment, simply air out your sofa. After a few hours in the hot sun, sprinkle baking soda over the upholstery on the couch and cushions. Let it sit overnight before vacuuming it off to reveal a fresh-smelling sofa.
Vinegar
Vinegar is a wonderful cleaning solution. Many people use it to help clean their homes because it is great at dissolving dirt, grease, and grime. It can also kill weeds in your garden, or in this case, be used to clean your couch. For this solution, you want to mix equal parts of vinegar and water. Once you have made your cleaning solution, spray it on your couch upholstery. After spraying it down, you can use a dry cloth to wipe the solution away.
