Some people make New Year’s Resolutions. Other people choose not to. I tend to land somewhere in between. I choose a word of the year to guide me. Then I move forward with monthly goals in various aspects of my life. I got a bit off track with my financial goals in the past couple of years. Therefore, I want to make sure that I start 2022 off right with new frugal goals. Here are my five frugal goals for January 2022:
1. Set and Keep a Food Budget
If you follow many of my posts here, then you already know that this is the hardest part of the budget for me. I know all of the great tricks for saving money on food. Yet, I blow the budget all of the time. And, I have to be honest, I’m not off to a great start so far. I went out for not one, but two, restaurant meals on January 1st alone. I’ve also ordered delivery twice since then.
However, instead of giving up or giving in, I’m doubling down. I’m resetting the food budget right now. In fact, I ordered all of the staples to be delivered today. I’ll be eating from the fridge and the pantry the rest of the month. That’s the goal anyway.
2. Review My Debt Repayment Plan
I’ve been steadily paying down debt for a while now. I have a plan in place that I’m happy with. However, since it’s the start of a new year, I think it’s a good time to review that plan. I want to make sure that I’m paying it off as quickly as possible. Moreover, I want to double-check the rates and see if I can get any better deals right now for the debt that’s still left to repay.
3. Delay Automatic Deliveries
I have a lot of different items set to auto-deliver. I automatically get food, dog food, contacts, shaving supplies, household items, wine, and more. In the long run, this saves me both time and money. However, I have a decent stock supply of most of these things. Therefore, I’m going to go in and skip some deliveries to save money this month.
4. Extra Income
In addition to saving money, I want to make more money. I’m going to take on some petsitting opportunities this month to make a little bit of extra cash. Additionally, I’m setting aside Mondays for business planning with an eye towards big growth opportunities. If I can make more but not spend any extra, then I’m setting myself up for success.
5. Frugal Dance Opportunities
As I mentioned at the start of this post, I choose a word of the year. My 2022 word of the year is DANCE. I want to dance more physically as well as find new ways to “dance” through life. To kick things off, I want to take some dance classes or go dancing with people. Therefore, I’ll focus on finding free or frugal opportunities to dance this month.
Do you have any financial goals for this month or for 2022?
