When we set big goals for ourselves, we need big doses of motivation, patience and persistence. There really is no such thing as an overnight success, no matter what headline you might read. And while everyone wants to figure out how to ‘hack’ success, I don’t really think that’s possible.
Big goals certainly take time. Things like paying off a lot of debt, or saving for financial independence take years to reach. It’s tempting to give up when your goal is far away, so something I like to do is find motivational quotes to keep myself going.
Have Personal Attachment to Your Goals
Patience and persistence are symbiotic words. To persevere through the obstacle that will undoubtedly come your way, you have to have wait patiently for the good things. You have to believe that the work you’re doing will get you to your goal.
Beyond just motivational quotes, I think it’s always powerful to attach personal meaning to a goal. If you want to et out of debt, it’ll be easier to reach if it’s about more than just wanting your dollars back. I wanted to get out of debt because my debt was limiting the things I could do with my time and money. My debt caused negative emotions in my life, and paying it off created space for positivity.
It took me over three years to pay off all my debt, which certainly took both patience and persistence. Three years is a long time to work towards something, but it was so worth it in the end. Becoming debt free was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and I’d do it all again if I had to.
